On my jaunts around town I keep seeing splashes of red brightening otherwise drab environments; the most common sight being red doors on town houses and older buildings. Anyone know the story behind these red doors?

I'm loving all the old buildings in your photos.
I think the red door is suppose to scare evil spirits away. Maybe I'm just making that up.
